What Are Motorised Roller Blinds?
Motorised blinds have always been seen as a premium product on the market, an extravagance beyond the reach of most people. But this is now a thing of the past, thanks to Louvolite’s One Touch® system – a fresh innovation that promises to deliver luxury and convenience without the heavy price tag.
One Touch technology allows you to add shade to rooms without even getting up from your chair – not to mention filter daylight, increase privacy, and welcome more light in!
Smart technology means you can operate a number of blinds at the same time, using the remote control or with the simple push of a button. Electric roller blinds by Louvolite can also be operated straight from your smartphone or tablet or using voice activation (i.e. Amazon Alexa or Google Home).
The benefits of Motorised Blinds
Louvolite motorised blinds are a popular choice for modern living, and it’s not surprising given that they are:
- Quick and easy to set up
- Child-safe (no more cords or chains)
- Operated using a wand that hangs neatly next to the blind or a remote control
- Simple and convenient to use
Motorised blinds can be controlled from anywhere in the world. That means, if you’re enjoying a holiday with your loved ones or working away, you can easily make it seem like there’s someone home by opening and closing the blinds via the app on your phone. This instantly increases your home’s security, making your property less appealing to would-be intruders!
Another great thing about motorised blinds by Louvolite is they allow you to dictate how much natural light enters the room – protecting your furniture from the sun’s UV rays and providing a comfortable living (and working) environment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are motorised blinds worth it?
Electric roller blinds, or motorised blinds as they are commonly referred to, are one of the most modern window treatments on the market today. Not only are they sleek and stylish, they allow you to raise or lower the blind with just the simple touch of a button.
One of the reasons why motorised blinds have proved popular is that you can conveniently control one set of blinds at a time, letting a specific amount of light in the room, or you can use the remote to control all the blinds at once. Ideal for privacy or maximum sunlight.
Something else you wouldn’t know about motorised roller blinds from looking at them is that they can help you to save money on your energy bill. For instance, if you’re away from home, you can set a timer to raise and lower the blind. In the summer, this is ideal for blocking out sunlight to keep the room nice and cool.
Louvolite electric blinds, like the ones we provide, can also give you peace of mind when you’re away on holiday. Setting a timer will keep your blinds moving which makes it look as though there is someone home – making your property less of a target for opportunistic criminals.
So, to answer the question of whether electric blinds are worth it, we would have to say yes! For more information about our Louvolite electric roller blinds, here at Galaxy Blinds, be sure to get in touch.
How do electric roller blinds work?
Most motorised blinds are operated by a remote control that can be used anywhere in the room. This means you can manage how much light enters the room without even having to get up from your chair.
Whether you’re wanting to filter daylight, increase privacy, or brighten up your room, all you need to do is either push the button ‘up’ or ‘down’ on the remote. The motorised system will take care of everything else and, more importantly, make sure that the blind glides smoothly and holds in the desired location.
Louvolite motorised roller blinds are child-friendly and very easy to operate. So why not curl up on the sofa and get the kids to create the perfect setting for an afternoon siesta? The great thing about the motorised blinds from Louvolite is that you have the added benefit of wand operation. This hangs neatly at the side of the blind and allows you to open or close the blind manually too.
Can Alexa control my electric roller blinds?
This is something we are being asked more and more often as Alexa devices infiltrate many homes across the UK. And, the good news is, yes – you can control your electric roller blinds using voice control with Amazon Alexa or Google Home!
You can set up your electric blinds to open or close in response to simple voice commands, i.e. ‘open the blinds in the kitchen’ or ‘close the blinds in the living room’. You can also control several sets of blinds at once by setting up pre-programmed activities, triggered by phrases, such as ‘close all the blinds in the house’ or ‘open all the blinds upstairs’.
Another great thing about the motorised blinds we supply is that you can ask Alexa to open your blinds at sunrise – helping you to wake up naturally every morning – or close them as soon as it goes dark. What’s more, our Louvolite blinds allow you to control your blinds no matter where you are – without having to pick up a handset, your smartphone or hitting a switch. An Alexa-controlled blind is the ultimate in automation and convenience.
To connect your motorised roller blinds to your Amazon Alexa, head over to your Alexa app and select ‘devices’, then ‘add device’. From here, you can choose the device you want to connect from the list. If you can’t find it, tap ‘other’ and Alexa will search for nearby smart devices to pair with.

Do electric blinds look better inside or outside the recess?
The great thing about motorised blinds is that they can be hung either inside or outside the recess. But the question is, which looks best?
Many people opt to fit motorised blinds inside the recess as it ensures a neat and tidy look. Any photo frames or decorations you keep on the window sill will remain on display – even when the blinds are closed.
One of the only downsides to electric roller blinds inside the recess is that less light can enter the room. And if the recess measures at a depth of 7.5cm or less, it’s likely to be too shallow – meaning blinds will be best installed outside the recess.
Motorised roller blinds look just as good outside the recess though. And, when raised, more natural light can enter your home, creating the illusion of extra space. By night, you can lower the blind using the remote control to completely block light from entering.
We also recommend this option if you have decorative ornaments on your window sill, as you needn’t worry about them being knocked off. However, once closed, objects will be hidden behind the blind. To cover the entirety of the frame, the roller blind itself will need to be larger than its inside-recess counterpart.

In a nutshell, what are the benefits of motorised blinds?
If you’ve been toying with the idea of getting motorised roller blinds for a while, but are yet to take the plunge, here are some of the key reasons why you should consider the investment:
• Convenience – control up to 15 blinds separately or all at once from any room in the house or anywhere in the world. Simply use the free app or use voice control with Amazon Alexa devices and Google Home.
• Child safe – blinds with a bead chain are the most dangerous for children and pets, whilst cordless motorised blinds are a much safer option as they are operated using a remote control or unique wand that hangs neatly at the side.
• Energy-saving – a huge benefit of blinds like these is that you can schedule them to close which, in turn, helps to retain heat and saves you money on your energy bills each month.
• Enhanced security – electric roller blinds are a smart way to make your house look like it’s occupied, even when you’re not home. Just use the timer, remote or the app on your smartphone to schedule the blinds to open and close.
• Easy to install – perhaps one of the biggest advantages of the electric blinds from Louvolite is that they are battery-operated, removing the need for mains wiring.
